본 연구는 AI 기술 확산이 한국 노동시장에 미친 영향을 분석하며, 전통적 AI(Webb 지수)와 생성형 AI(Felton 지수)의 차별적 효과를 비교하였다. 임금근로자 전수에 가까운 고용보험 자료를 활용해 두 지수에 따른 직업 및 노동자의 특성을 분석한 결과 전통적 AI는 중고령 노동자와 기술 중심 산업(제조업, 건설업)에 높은 영향을 미친 반면, 생성형 AI는 젊은 세대와 여성 근로자가 주로 종사하는 지식 및 서비스 중심 산업(교육, 정보통신)에 더 큰 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 다음으로 본 연구는 전통적 AI와 생성형 AI의 노동시장에서의 효과를 분석하기 위해 고용 및 임금 변화와 AI 노출 정도의 관계를 장기차분모형을 활용하여 추정하였다. 또한 추정에 있어 전통적 자동화 기술의 영향을 통제하여 AI 기술의 독립적 효과를 평가하였다. 분석 결과, 전통적 AI 기술은 고용 감소와 연관되었으나, 생성형 AI 기술에서는 고용감소효과가 관측되지 않았다. 오히려 생성형 AI 기술에 노출된 직종의 경우 타 직종과 비교해 임금이 상승하는 것으로 나타나 기술 도입 초기 단계에서는 노동생산성을 보완하는 방식으로 작동하였음을 시사한다. 본 연구는 AI 기술 유형별 노동시장 효과를 비교 제시하여, AI 기술 확산에 대응하는 고용정책 설계를 위한 실증적 기초를 제공한다.
Abstract
This paper examines the impact of AI technology on the Korean labor market by comparing the effects of traditional AI (Webb Index) and generative AI (Felton Index). Using employment insurance data covering nearly the entire wage-earning population, we document that traditional AI primarily affects older workers in technology-intensive sectors such as manufacturing and construction, while generative AI is more associated with younger and female workers in knowledge- and service-oriented sectors like education and information technology. To estimate the relationship between AI exposure and labor market outcomes, we implement a long-difference model, controlling for the influence of traditional automation technologies. The results indicate that exposure to traditional AI is associated with declines in employment, whereas exposure to generative AI has no such effect and is instead linked to wage gains, suggesting a productivity-enhancing role. These findings highlight the heterogeneous labor market implications of different AI technologies and offer empirical foundations for designing targeted employment policies.
