기업가적 의도의 동태적 형성과정에 관한 개념적 모형: 흡수역량과 양손잡이 행동의 역할

본 연구는 기업가적 의도의 형성과정을 기존의 고정된 심리적 상태로 보는 관점에서 벗어나, 시간적 흐름 속에서 개인의 학습과 행동을 통해 점진적으로 진화하는 동태적 과정으로 개념화하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 개인 수준에서의 흡수역량(absorptive capacity)과 양손잡이 행동(ambidextrous behavior)을 중심 변수로 설정하고, 이들이 기업가적 의도에 미치는 영향 및 작동 메커니즘을 이론적으로 탐색하였다. 기존 연구가 개인의 성향이나 태도에 치중한 반면, 본 연구는 개인이 외부 지식을 어떻게 수용하고, 이를 실험적 행동을 통해 학습하며, 그 결과로 의도가 형성되고 강화되는지를 설명하고자 하였다. 본 연구에서는 흡수역량을 외부의 다양한 정보를 인식하고 이를 내면화하는 능력으로 정의하였으며, 이 능력이 양손잡이 행동을 통해 기업가적 의도에 영향을 미친다고 보았다. 개인의 양손잡이 행동은 기회를 탐색하고 동시에 이를 실행해보는 활동으로, 불확실한 환경에서 학습과 검증을 반복하는 실험적 행동으로 기능하였다. 본 연구는 이 과정을 통해 기업가적 의도가 형성되며, 이후 행동 경험이 다시 흡수역량을 강화하는 선순환적 구조를 가진다고 설명하였다. 본 연구는 다음과 같은 네 가지 명제를 제시하였다. 첫째, 흡수역량은 양손잡이 행동에 긍정적 영향을 미친다. 둘째, 양손잡이 행동은 기업가적 의도를 매개하는 역할을 수행한다. 셋째, 흡수역량과 기업가적 의도 간의 관계는 양손잡이 행동에 의해 완전 매개된다. 넷째, 행동 경험은 다시 흡수역량을 강화함으로써 자기강화적 메커니즘을 구성한다. 이러한 결과를 통해 기업가적 의도는 단선적이고 정태적인 변수가 아니라, 반복적 행동과 학습을 통해 시간적으로 구성되는 동태적 과정임을 이론화하고자 하였다. 본 연구는 기업가적 의도를 정태적 개념이 아닌 시간과 경험 속에서 형성되는 동적인 개념으로 재정의하였다는 점에서 이론적 기여를 갖는다. 또한 조직 수준의 동태적 역량 개념을 개인 수준에 적용함으로써 기업가정신 연구의 미시적 이론화를 시도하였다. 마지막으로 흡수역량-행동-의도 간의 상호작용을 순환적 메커니즘으로 설명함으로써 행동 중심의 설명을 시도하였다. 실무적으로는 예비 창업자에게 단기적인 동기 유발보다, 실험적 행동을 통해 학습하는 경험 기반 접근이 더욱 효과적임을 제안하였다. 이에 따라 창업 교육 및 정책은 흡수역량 개발과 양손잡이 행동을 촉진할 수 있는 구조화된 학습 환경-예: 실전형 교육, 피드백 시스템, 행동 기반 멘토링-을 중심으로 설계될 필요가 있음을 시사하였다.
Abstract
This study aims to reconceptualize the formation of entrepreneurial intention as a dynamic capability-based process at the individual level. While prior research has predominantly treated entrepreneurial intention as a static psychological state often shaped by personal traits or attitudes. This study argues for a time-based, evolving, and feedback-driven approach. Specifically, it proposes that the formation of entrepreneurial intention involves a recursive cycle of knowledge absorption, ambidextrous behavior, intention realization, and subsequent capability enhancement through experiential learning. To elaborate this conceptual framework, the study develops four propositions centered on the relationship between individual absorptive capacity, ambidextrous behavior, and entrepreneurial intention. First, absorptive capacity enhances ambidextrous behavior through the acquisition, assimilation, transformation, and application of external knowledge. Second, ambidextrous behavior-through iterative cycles of exploration and exploitation-enhances perceived feasibility and reduces uncertainty, thereby fostering entrepreneurial intention. Third, ambidextrous behavior fully mediates the relationship between absorptive capacity and entrepreneurial intention, indicating that knowledge alone does not generate intention unless it is translated into behavioral experimentation. Fourth, entrepreneurial behavior feeds back into absorptive capacity through a reinforcing loop, allowing the individual to process complex information more effectively and develop higher-level capabilities over time. The study contributes theoretically by extending the concept of dynamic capabilities-traditionally discussed at the organizational level-to the individual level. It also clarifies the mediating role of ambidextrous behavior in bridging the gap between knowledge and intention and emphasizes the role of recursive learning and behavioral experimentation in entrepreneurial development. Practically, the study offers guidance for aspiring entrepreneurs, entrepreneurship educators, and policy makers. It highlights the importance of structured capability-building pathways, action-based learning, and long-term feedback-oriented educational programs. Finally, as a conceptual study, it calls for future empirical research to validate the proposed propositions using longitudinal data and to explore their applicability in various entrepreneurial contexts, including social and corporate entrepreneurship and digitally mediated environments.
