과점적 판매채널 하에서의 펀드 현금흐름 결정요인: 한국시장 사례를 중심으로

간접투자상품에 대한 정보가 부족한 일반 투자자들은 설정한 투자 목표에 적합한 펀드를 구매하기 위해 스스로 개별 상품을 평가하기보다는 펀드판매회사를 선택하는 경향이있다. 따라서 투자의사결정은 선택한 펀드판매회사가 어떤 상품을 추천하는지에 따라 큰차이를 보이게 된다. 이에 본 연구는 과점적 유통 구조를 형성한 한국 금융시장에서 각판매채널을 통해 유입되는 펀드 현금흐름이 투자성과 등 투자의사결정 요인에 대해 상이한 반응을 보이는지 확인하고, 이러한 차이가 펀드판매회사의 거래 특성에 의해 발생하는지를 분석하였다. 분석 결과, 펀드 및 자산운용사 레벨에서의 현금흐름은 판매채널에 따라 유의하게 다른 패턴을 보였으며, 펀드판매회사의 현금흐름은 금융업권, 시장지배력, 금융계열사 관계, 평판 등에 의해 유의하게 영향을 받는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과는 한국과 같은신흥국 금융시장에서는 금융상품 특성보다 판매채널 특성이 투자의사결정에 더욱 중요한 영향을 미치며, 투자자 보호, 시장 경쟁, 지속가능성 측면을 고려하여 개선할 필요가있음을 시사한다고 해석할 수 있다.
Abstract
Uninformed investors preferentially select distribution companies to purchase mutual funds that suit their investment objectives because they cannot evaluate each product themselves. Thus, the investment decisions depend significantly on the recommendations of the chosen fund distributor. This study examined whether mutual fund flows from each distribution channel indicate different responses to the determinants of investment decisions, and whether this distinction is caused by transaction-specific variables of the fund distributor. The results show that fund and asset management company flows exhibit significantly different patterns according to the distribution channels, and fund distributor flows are affected by their financial business segment, market power, vertical relation, and reputation. This result provides insights that show that changes in the incentive structure of distribution channels lead to different outcomes in terms of investor protection, market competition, and sustainability in emerging mutual fund markets.
