This study quantitatively analyzes the growth factors of the agri-food industry by utilizing a specialized classification system that encompasses both upstream and downstream related industries. A systematic understanding of industrial growth and structural changes requires empirical analysis of growth drivers, and this research aims to identify the growth trends of the agri-food industry to provide foundational data for future policy development. To this end, input-output tables from the Bank of Korea for 2021 and 2022 and survey data on the agri-food industry from the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs for 2022 and 2024 were integrated to reconstruct input-output tables for the years 2021 and 2023. Structural Decomposition Analysis (SDA) was employed to identify the contributing and inhibiting factors of growth, with the analysis conducted at both the major (8 sectors) and sub-sectoral (25 sectors) levels. The results show that the agri-food industry experienced overall growth between 2021 and 2023, with the food and related processing industry(13) and the wholesale and retail industry of agricultural products(14) contributing most significantly. These sectors drove the increase in total output through expanded domestic demand, increased exports, and productivity improvements due to technological change. This study contributes to the literature by constructing a refined input-output framework tailored to the agri-food industry and offers practical insights into industrial trends and directions for policy formulation.
