디지털화는 지속가능한 발전을 견인하는 핵심 동력으로 주목받고 있으나, 중소기업의 디지털화 역량과 지속가능한 성과 간의 관계는 여전히 일관되게 규명되지 않았으며, 특히 시장 혼란이 이러한 관계에 미치는 조절적 영향에 대한 실증적 연구는 부족한 실정이다. 이와 같은 연구의 공백을 보완하기 위해, 본 연구는 동태적 역량 관점과 상황적합이론을 적용한 이론적 프레임워크를 기반으로, 중소기업의 디지털화 역량이 지속가능한 성과에 미치는 영향을 분석하고, 이 관계에서 시장 혼란이 어떠한 조절적 역할을 수행하는지를 실증적으로 검토하였다. 한국의 혁신형 중소기업 256개사를 대상으로 한 설문조사 결과, 디지털화 역량은 지속가능한 성과를 촉진하는 데 유의미한 긍정적 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 특히 주목할 점은, 시장 혼란 수준이 높을수록 디지털화 역량이 지속가능한 성과에 미치는 영향력이 더욱 강화된다는 점이다. 이러한 분석 결과는 디지털화 역량과 지속가능한 성과 간의 관계에 대한 기존 문헌의 상충된 결과를 이론적으로 설명할 뿐만 아니라, 중소기업이 불확실한 환경 속에서 효과적인 디지털 전략을 수립하는 데 실질적인 시사점을 제공한다.
Abstract
As digitalization becomes increasingly recognized as a key driver of sustainable development, the relationship between digitalization capabilities and sustainable performance in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) remains insufficiently explored. In particular, the moderating role of market turbulence in this relationship has received limited scholarly attention. To address this gap, this study integrates the dynamic capability perspective and contingency theory to examine how digitalization capabilities influences sustainable performance in SMEs, with a specific focus on the moderating effect of market turbulence. Based on survey data from 256 innovative SMEs in South Korea, the results reveal that digitalization capabilities has a significant positive impact on sustainable performance. More importantly, this effect is amplified under conditions of high market turbulence. These findings offer new theoretical insights into the contingent nature of the digitalization capabilities– sustainable performance relationship and provide practical implications for SMEs aiming to develop resilient digitalization strategies in volatile environments.
