디자인 IP(지식재산권) 권리화를 위한 디자인 창작과 교육 효과 연구

This study examines the impact of practice-based education that incorporates the intellectual property (IP) rights process into design curricula, focusing on its effects on students’ creativity, practical awareness, legal understanding, and career attitudes. It also compares the current state of IP education in design-related departments at universities in South Korea. Findings indicate that most institutions offer IP education at a theoretical or lecture level, with little engagement in actual filing or registration practices. Since 2019, the researcher has conducted hands-on courses focused on design rights. Students participated in the full process—from understanding design rights and conducting prior design searches to preparing applications and completing registration through the Korean Intellectual Property Office. From 2022 to 2024, the educational effects were measured through post-course surveys. Data analysis using SPSS included reliability and correlation analyses. Results showed significant positive correlations: between knowledge and creative awareness, between practical skills and IP recognition, and between creativity and ethical career attitudes. These findings demonstrate that IP education fosters not only legal understanding but also enhances creative capacity, practical readiness, and professional growth. This study suggests that IP-centered, practice-based learning should become a core element of future design education. To meet the demands of AI-driven creative environments, design curricula must integrate IP protection alongside digital tools, supported by institutional infrastructure and policy. This research offers foundational insight for future curriculum development and educational policy in design IP education.
