본 연구는 해운물류 부문에서 무역–탄소 효율성(trade-carbon intensity)에 영향을 미치는 물류성과와 환경기술의 역할을 분석한다. 국제 무역이 디지털화와 환경위기에 대응하는 방향으로 전환되면서 무역원활화(trade facilitation)의 범위는 단순한 통관 절차 개선에서 지속가능성과 녹색물류까지 확대되고 있다. 이에 본 연구는 세계은행의 물류성과지수(Logistics Performance Index, LPI) 하위 항목 중 탄소배출과 밀접한 관련이 있는 인프라(infrastructure)와 정시성(timeliness)을 중심으로 무역–탄소 효율성에 미치는 영향을 분석하였다. 또한 재생에너지 소비 비중, 녹색 특허 수 등 환경기술 변수를 고려하여 물류성과와 무역–탄소 효율성 간의 관계가 환경기술 수준에 따라 어떻게 달라지는지를 검토하였다. 2010년부터 2020년까지 47개국을 대상으로 한 패널데이터를 사용하였으며, 고정효과 회귀모형을 적용하여 국가 간 이질성을 통제하였다. 분석 결과, 물류 인프라의 개선은 무역–탄소 효율성 향상에 기여하는 반면, 정시성 증가는 일부 상황에서 환경적 효율성을 저해할 수 있음을 확인하였다. 본 연구는 무역성과와 환경성과를 통합한 효율성 지표를 제시하고, 물류성과의 세부 요소와 환경기술의 상호작용을 규명함으로써 지속가능한 무역전략 수립에 대한 학문적·정책적 시사점을 제공한다.
Abstract
Purpose : This study analyzes the role of logistics performance and environmental technologies in influencing trade–carbon efficiency (trade-carbon intensity) in the maritime logistics sector. As global trade shifts toward digitalization and environmental responsibility, the scope of trade facilitation has expanded from mere customs simplification to include sustainability and green logistics. Research design, data, methodology : The study focuses on sub-components of the World Bank’s Logistics Performance Index (LPI)—infrastructure and timeliness—that are closely linked to carbon emissions. It also examines environmental technology variables such as renewable energy consumption and green patents to understand how technological capacity moderates the relationship between logistics performance and trade–carbon efficiency. Panel data from 47 countries covering 2010 to 2020 are analyzed using a fixed-effects regression model to control for cross-country heterogeneity. Results : The findings reveal that improvements in logistics infrastructure significantly enhance trade–carbon efficiency, whereas enhancements in timeliness may, in certain contexts, hinder environmental efficiency. These results highlight trade-offs inherent in speed-oriented logistics strategies. Conclusions : By integrating trade and environmental outcomes into a unified efficiency measure, this study contributes to sustainable trade policy discussions and provides practical insights for developing green maritime logistics strategies that balance trade facilitation with carbon reduction goals.
