Using data from the 9th (2006) to the 26th (2023) of the Korea Labor Panel Survey (KLIPS), this study analyzed the factors of change in labor union perception for 91,383 wage workers living in 17 cities and provinces or where businesses are located. The analysis method used a two-way fixed effects model to estimate the change in perception over time. As a result of the analysis, it was found that labor union membership, wage level, working hours, employment type, tenure, job satisfaction, age, educational attainment, firm size and industrial structure had a significant effect on the change in labor union perception, and these effects differed by region. In particular, joining the labor union, rising wages, conversion to regular workers, and increasing job satisfaction were identified as major factors that raised the level of labor union perception. These results show that labor union perception is not limited to personal experiences, but changes according to structural factors such as regional industrial structure and socio-economic environment. Accordingly, in order to establish a region -based labor policy, it is necessary to fully consider the characteristics of the labor market by region and the change in the perception of labor unions of wage workers rather than a uniform approach at the national level.
