AI 활용이 동태적 역량을 강화시키는가?: 디지털 전환의 함정

This study posits that organizations excessively leveraging Artificial Intelligence (AI) may enter a structural state of AI dependency, which can, in turn, threaten their dynamic capabilities. To this end, we first examine the foundational premises of dynamic capabilities and subsequently define the concept of organizational AI dependency. We then analyze the mechanisms through which challenges arising from modern AI threaten dynamic capabilities under this condition of dependency. This analysis leads to the following propositions: Proposition 1: In a state of AI dependency, an organization's sensing capabilities are weakened by a distorted information environment and the degradation of human critical interpretation skills. Proposition 2: In a state of AI dependency, an organization's seizing capabilities are diminished due to learned helplessness and rigid resource allocation. Proposition 3: In a state of AI dependency, an organization's transforming capabilities are impaired by the paralysis of fundamental learning abilities and structural ossification. Through this discussion, we offer a critical perspective on the discussion that AI technology can enhance dynamic capabilities and theoretically re-examine organizational learning theory in the context of the AI era. From a practical standpoint, we specifically warn managers of multinational corporations about the risks of technological lock-in within an AI ecosystem dominated by a few Big Tech companies, and provide concrete guidance for safeguarding dynamic capabilities. However, a significant limitation of this study is that it remains a theoretical discussion not yet supported by empirical research, which underscores the need for subsequent empirical studies.
