부모의 이혼이 청소년의 행복도에 미치는 영향: 가족 지지의 기능적, 구조적 특성의 조절효과를 중심으로

연구목적: 본 연구는 부모의 이혼 여부가 청소년의 행복도에 미치는 영향과 가족 지지의 기능적, 구조적 특성의 조절 효과를 검증하고자 하였다. 연구방법: 2022년 한국청소년정책연구원(NYPI)의 데이터를 활용하여 만 12세∼24세 이하 청소년 1,175명의 자료를 활용하였다. 위계적 회귀 분석을 실시하여 부모의 이혼 여부가 청소년의 행복도에 미치는 영향과 가족 지지의 기능적, 구조적 특성의 조절 효과를 분석하였으며 Johnson-Neyman 기법과 Process macro model 1을 사용하여 조절 효과의 구간과 그래프를 확인하였다. 연구결과: 첫째, 부모의 이혼 여부는 청소년의 행복도에 유의한 영향을 미치지 않았다. 둘째, 가족 지지의 기능적 특성 수준이 상대적으로 낮을 때 조절 효과가 유의하였다. 셋째, 부모의 이혼을 경험한 청소년들에게서 조부모와 동거하는 집단은 조부모가 없는 집단에 비해 더 낮은 행복도를 보여주었다. 결론: 부모 이혼이 청소년에게 미치는 영향과 가족 지지의 특성에 대한 다양한 이해가 필요하며 부모 이혼을 경험한 청소년의 행복도에 주요한 보호 요인으로 가족 지지의 역할을 확인하였다. 또한, 이혼 가정에서 조부모와의 동거는 청소년의 행복도에 항상 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것이 아닐 수도 있으며, 이는 부모의 이혼 경험 자체의 영향을 넘어서 세대 간 갈등과 가족 내 역동을 함께 고려해야 할 필요성을 제시한다.
Abstract
Objectives: The study explores the relationship between parental divorce and adolescent happiness and the moderating effects of functional and structural characteristics of family support in this relationship. Method: Using data from the 2022 National Youth Policy Institute (NYPI), the final sample included 1,175 adolescents aged 12 to 24. We conducted a series of hierarchical regression analysis to examine the effect of parental divorce on adolescents’ happiness and to assess the moderating effects of the functional and structural characteristics of family support on this relationship. Johnson-Neyman technique for functional support moderation was used to identify the specific region of significance. PROCESS Macro Model 1 was used to visually examine structural characteristics of family support based on co-residence status with grandparents. Results: While parental divorce did not show any significant association with adolescents’ happiness, the moderating effect of functional characteristics of support was significant at low levels. The moderating effect of structural characteristics of family support through co-residence with grandparents was associated with lower happiness levels among adolescents who experienced parental divorce in the “Living with grandparents” group than those who did not experience parental divorce when compared to “Having no grandparents” group. Conclusions: These findings imply that we need to understand the role of family support in the context of parental divorce. Also, high level of functional family support is the key protective factor for the happiness of adolescents who have experienced parental divorce. Our findings have implications for intervention aimed at enhancing functional family support in divorced families. Additionally, in divorced families, co-residence with grandparents does not always have a supportive effect on adolescents’ well-being. This underscores the importance of not only looking beyond parental divorce, but also considering intergenerational conflicts and broader family dynamics.
