초록
As global interest in Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) practices continued to expand, the sports industry is increasingly being recognized as a vital sector for sustainable development. This study investigates the direction of South Korea’s ESG support policies in the sports industry in response to global ESG policy trends. Through a comprehensive review of international ESG frameworks, including those implemented in the European Union, the United States, and Japan, this research identifies key policy benchmarks and assesses their applicability to the Korean context. The study employs qualitative content analysis and simulated expert interviews to examine both public and private sector responses to ESG adoption in the domestic sports industry. The findings reveal that while Korea has made initial efforts to integrate ESG principles into sports governance, its policies remain fragmented and lack strategic coherence. Based on overseas best practices, this paper proposes a three-pillar approach—establishing a national ESG sports policy framework, incentivizing corporate ESG initiatives, and enhancing ESG-related public awareness and education. The results suggest that a proactive and harmonized policy direction is essential for aligning Korea’s sports industry with global sustainability standards. This study provides strategic implications for policymakers, stakeholders, and scholars aiming to reinforce ESG infrastructure in the Korean sports ecosystem.
