초록
The term Environmental, Social, Governance (ESG) has become prominent in the Meetings, Incentives travel, Conventions, and Exhibitions/Events (MICE) sector, often being used interchangeably with sustainability and emphasizes ESG management and practices. The MICE industry has been criticized for generating excessive waste, damaging the environment and culture. Large-scale events held at exhibition halls and large hotels are also known to have negative environmental impacts, including those arising from packaging materials, booths, and food waste. However, without robust empirical or academic evidence demonstrating the positive impact of ESG activities on companies, it will be difficult to sustain these initiatives if the ESG focus fades or a new global agenda emerges, potentially hindering progress beyond established eco-friendly and social efforts. From this perspective, this study investigates research trends and discussions related to ESG management activities within MICE studies. It also analyzes big data to explore trends in how ESG in the MICE sector is reported and discussed in the media. Ultimately, this study aims to suggest future research topics and spark academic discussion, thereby accumulating a diverse and systematic body of research that can serve as a robust foundation for MICE companies to proactively pursue ESG management.
