선취업-후진학에 미치는 영향요인 분석

This study examines the characteristics of students who follow the Work-First then Higher Education (WFHE) pathway compared to immediate college entrants and non-enrollees, using data from the Korea Education and Employment Panel Survey II (KEEP II). The independent variables were categorized into three domains: family background, student characteristics, and school characteristics. The findings indicated no significant family background differences between WFHE students and non-enrollees, but clear differences compared to immediate college entrants in number of siblings, educational expectations, and interest-related factors. Regarding student characteristics, female students demonstrated a higher propensity to enroll immediately or follow the WFHE pathway than nonenrollees, with a notably higher likelihood of selecting WFHE. WFHE students actively participate in employment-related activities in high schools. In terms of school characteristics, students in Meister High Schools were more inclined to pursue the WFHE pathway than immediate college entrants. These results suggest that policies promoting WFHE could help alleviate educational stratification. To advance these policies, we recommend enhancing employment support within vocational high schools and offering incentives for WFHE participation in nonmetropolitan universities. Overall, targeted policy efforts are needed to promote equitable education and employment opportunities.
