과학기술인재의 연구개발활동과 창업의도: 고용가능성과 기술적 기회를 중심으로

초록
본 연구는 과학기술인재의 연구개발활동과 창업의도의 관계를 검토하고 있다. 인적자원개발 분야에서 과학기술인재의 연구개발 성과를 높이기 위한 다양한 교육과 활동에 대한 관심이 지속되어 왔으며, 이러한 관심은 과학적 성과를 높이기 위한 기초 연구기술을 강조하는 방식에서부터 인재들을 연구개발 프로젝트에 참여시키고 연구개발 인력의 역량을 강화하기 위한 참여적 프로그램으로 확대되고 있다. 본 연구는 이러한 추세를 따라 과학기술인재를 위한 연구개발활동과 고용가능성간의 관계를 살펴보고 이를 창업의도와 연계하여 살펴보고자 한다. 고용가능성이 높고 창업이 활발히 이루어지는 과학기술 분야에서는 기술적 기회도 높게 나타나기 때문에, 기술적 기회가 어떻게 연구개발활동과 상호작용하여 창업의도에 영향을 미치는 지를 검토하고자 한다. 이를 위해 본 연구는 국가과학기술인력개발원(KIRD)에서 조사한 「2024 과학기술 인재개발 활동조사」 자료를 활용하여, 창업의도에 영향을 미치는 연구개발활동, 고용가능성 및 기술적 기회의 효과를 회귀분석을 이용하여 분석하였다. 1,000명의 과학기술인재에 대한 조사 자료를 분석한 결과, 과학기술인재의 연구개발활동이 창업의도에 미치는 직접적인 정(+)의 영향이 유의미한 것으로 나타났고 고용가능성에 미치는 정(+)의 영향도 유의미한 것으로 나타났으며, 고용가능성이 연구개발활동과 창업의도간의 관계를 매개하는 효과가 나타났다. 기술적 기회 또한 과학기술인재의 연구개발활동과 결합하여 창업의도를 높이는 것으로 나타났다. 이처럼 본 연구는 과학기술인재의 참여적 연구개발활동 결과를 고용가능성 및 창업의도와 같이 다양하게 분석하고 있을 뿐 아니라, 기술적 기회와의 관계를 구체화하고 있다는 점에서 과학기술인재의 연구개발활동과 창업의도간의 관계에 관심을 가진 연구자들에게 시사점을 제공하고 있다. 본 연구는 연구개발활동과 창업의도간의 관계를 파악함에 있어 과학기술인재의 고용가능성이 중요하게 고려되어야 하며, 기술적 기회는 연구개발활동과 결합하여 창업의도에 영향을 미칠 수 있기 때문에, 과학기술인재의 창업을 증대시키기 위해서는 기초 연구기술의 강조도 중요하지만 과학기술 분야에 나타난 기술적 기회를 포착하기 위한 “참여적” 연구개발활동을 증대시킬 필요가 있다는 시사점을 제공하고 있다. 본 연구는 창업의도와 관련해서 기업가정신과 창업교육의 효과를 검토하던 기존 접근법과 다르게, 과학기술인재의 연구개발활동이 고용가능성과 창업의도에 미치는 효과를 검토하고 있으며, 기술적 기회의 효과를 강조하였다는 점에서도 기존 연구들과 차별화된다.
Abstract
This study examines the relationship between R&D activities and entrepreneurial intentions among science and technology professionals. In the field of human resource development, there has been a sustained interest in various education and activities aimed at enhancing the R&D performance of science and technology professionals. This interest has recently expanded beyond scientific achievement to include employment and entrepreneurship. Following this trend, this study examines the relationship between R&D activities and employability among science and technology professionals and links this to entrepreneurial intentions. Furthermore, given that technological opportunities are abundant in science and technology fields with high employability and a high rate of entrepreneurship, this study aims to examine how technological opportunities interact with R&D activities to influence entrepreneurial intentions. To this end, this study utilized data from the "2024 Survey on Science and Technology Talent Development Activities" conducted by the Korea Institute for Human Resources Development in Science and Technology (KIRD). Using regression analysis, this study analyzed the interactions among R&D activities, employability, and technological opportunities on entrepreneurial intentions. An analysis of survey data on 1,000 scientists and engineers revealed that while the direct effect of their R&D activities on entrepreneurial intention was significant, a significant effect was observed on employability, with employability mediating the relationship between R&D activities and entrepreneurial intention. Technological opportunities, when combined with R&D activities, were found to increase entrepreneurial intention. This study not only analyzes the outcomes of R&D activities of scientists and engineers in various ways, including employability and entrepreneurial intention, but also specifies the relationship between technological opportunities, providing implications for researchers interested in the relationship between R&D activities and entrepreneurial intention. This study emphasizes the importance of employability in understanding the relationship between R&D activities and entrepreneurial intention. Furthermore, because technological opportunities, when combined with R&D activities, can influence entrepreneurial intention, this study confirms that while basic research skills are crucial for increasing entrepreneurship among scientists and engineers, it is also necessary to increase R&D activities to capture technological opportunities in science and technology fields. This study differs from previous approaches that solely examined the effects of entrepreneurship and entrepreneurship education on entrepreneurial intentions. Instead, it examines the effects of R&D activities on employability and entrepreneurial intentions among science and technology professionals. It also emphasizes the impact of technological opportunities. The implications of this study are discussed, along with limitations and recommendations for future research.
