Analysis of Trends in Patents, Utility Models, and Design Rights Related to Men’s Underwear

차수정(목포대학교)

29권 5호, 27~40쪽

초록

This study provides a comprehensive analysis of filing trends and technical content related to intellectual property rights (IPRs) for men’s underwear, encompassing patents, utility models, and design registrations. The objective is to identify significant technological advancements, design trends, and industry implications that can guide future product development and academic research. Data on patents, utility models, and designs were collected and analyzed based on filing year, applicant type, region, international classification (IPC for patents and utility models, Locarno for designs), and technical content. The analysis revealed a surge in patent filings after 2011, primarily driven by individual applicants, although corporate filings have risen in recent years. Most utility models were submitted in the early 2000s, focusing on enhancing wearability and functionality. Design registrations predominantly fell under Locarno Class 02-01, indicating a strong emphasis on structural and functional design features. The technical content was categorized into functional enhancements, material applications (e.g., metal-infused fabrics, collagen yarns), and manufacturing innovations (e.g., seamless construction, magnetic chip insertion). Additionally, functional briefs featuring anatomical support structures and multi-feature designs were prominent. These findings indicate that men’s underwear has evolved from basic apparel to incorporate advanced technologies and ergonomic considerations. This study provides valuable insights for designers, manufacturers, and educators, recommending increased focus on IP-based innovation and functional design strategies in the development of men’s underwear.
