본 연구는 “삶은 살 가치가 있는가”라는 니힐리즘의 물음이 ‘책임’을 계약론적 권리-의무 관계로 한정하는 데서 비롯된다는 문제의식에서 출발한다. 그리고 그 계약론을 넘어서는 책임의 근거를 하이데거의 존재와 시간 에서 찾을 수 있다고 본다. 그간 하이데거의 철학에서 말하는 ‘책임 있음’ 내지는 ‘탓 있음’의 논의는 여러가지 방식으로 탐구 되어 왔다. 기존 연구와 달리 그 책임의 형식을 하이데거의 ‘죽음론’에 근거해 해명하되, 또한 심리학에서 다루는 책임의 형식을 통해서 간명하게 이해될 수 있음을 논증하고자 한다. 이를 위해 심리학의 ‘방관자 효과’ 모델을 분석 틀로 삼아, 책임이 성립하는 조건으로서 행위자의 ‘집중성’과 상황의 ‘위급성’이라는 두 축을 도출한다. 그리고 하이데거의 죽음의 실존론적 해명 안에서, 죽음이 현존재를 단독화 하여 ‘집중성’을 확보하고, 죽음의 필연성과 무규정성을 통해 ‘시급함(위급성)’을 드러내고 있음을 논증한다. 그리고 ‘불안’은 바로 이 책임의 구조를 현존재가 직접 마주하도록 하는 핵심적인 계기로 작동한다. 결론적으로 본 연구는 하이데거의 죽음 개념이 추상적으로 머무르는 것이 아니라, 현존재를 실질적으로 자기 존재로 이끄는 성격이 있음을 심리학적-실증적 모델을 통해 구체적으로 해명함으로써, 니힐리즘의 물음에 대한 실존론적 답변의 구조를 새롭게 제시하고자 한다.
Abstract
This study begins with the critical observation that nihilism’s question, “Is life worth living?”, stems from defining ‘responsibility’ in terms of a contractual ‘right-duty’ relationship. It posits that a basis for responsibility beyond contractualism can be found in Heidegger’s Being and Time. Unlike previous studies, this paper aims to elucidate the structure of this responsibility based on Heidegger’s analysis of ‘death’, arguing that it can be concisely understood through the lens of responsibility as examined in psychology. To this end, it employs the ‘bystander effect’ model from social psychology as an analytical framework to derive two core conditions for the establishment of responsibility: the ‘focality’ of the agent and the ‘urgency’ of the situation. The paper then argues that within Heidegger’s existential analytic of death, death singularizes Dasein, thereby securing ‘focality’, and reveals ‘urgency’ through its certainty and indefiniteness. Furthermore, ‘anxiety (Angst)’ is identified as the key attunement through which Dasein directly confronts this structure of responsibility. In conclusion, this study seeks to present a new framework for an existential answer to nihilism by concretely demonstrating, through a psychological-empirical model, that Heidegger’s concept of death is not merely an abstract theory but possesses a character that tangibly leads Dasein to its own being.
