Purchasing Quality Strategy for ESG Implementation within the Supply Chain: Based on Case Studies of Leading Companies

Purpose: This study examined the purchasing quality strategies of leading South Korean companies with complex supply chains to promote the effective implementation of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) practices within these chains. Methods: The analysis was based on the companies' 2025 sustainability reports or Environmental, Social, and Governance(ESG) reports. Results: The results of this study are as follows; First, the case companies integrate ESG principles into their core management strategies by engaging in environmentally friendly purchasing, ethical supplier management, collaborative programs, transparent information disclosure, and rigorous auditing systems. Second, ESG implementation in supply chains offers substantial benefits. It ensures environmental sustainability, fosters social trust, and improves governance transparency. Third, operational frameworks built to comply with supply chain due diligence legislation emphasize establishing cycles of mutual trust and cooperation among suppliers, lead firms, and partners. This enables the simultaneous achievement of supply chain competitiveness and sustainability. Conclusion: Structured ESG evaluation and feedback mechanisms facilitate proactive problem prevention and quick corrective action, improving purchasing quality overall. In addition, ESG practices within the supply chain enhance corporate competitiveness, support government policy, promote industry-wide ESG adoption, and foster sustainable co-growth ecosystems with partner suppliers. These insights provide practical guidance for supply chain managers and regulators responsible for ESG-oriented purchasing quality initiatives.
