Exploring Family Resilience of Divorce Families in Picture Books Based on Walsh’s Model DOI http://dx.doi.org/10.62783/SHSS.7.6.53 Kyoung Choi* & Jooram Jun** Abstract: This study explores the adaptive processes of divorce families depicted in picture books by analyzing their belief systems, organizational patterns, and communication processes based on Walsh’s (2016) Family Resilience Model. Fifteen picture books portraying divorce families were analyzed by examining the narrative content of text and illustrations, and their meanings were interpreted according to Walsh’s Family Resilience Theory. The findings show that belief systems appeared as the second most frequent resilience domain, with subcomponents emerging in the order of making meaning of adversity, positive outlook, and transcendence and spirituality. Organizational patterns represented the largest proportion, indicating that changes experienced by children during divorce are closely related to the reorganization of daily routines and relational networks. In the domain of communication processes, clarity was the most prominent feature, while open emotional expression and collaborative problem-solving appeared at similar levels. Overall, the analyzed picture books contain elements of family resilience that help young children understand changes in their family environment, suggesting that such picture books may be used directly or indirectly in educational and counseling contexts for children experiencing family transitions during divorce.
