Narrative Inquiry into the Lives of Early Adult Children of Divorce Who Experienced Parental Divorce in Childhood and Adolescence* DOI http://dx.doi.org/10.62783/SHSS.7.6.103 Yeongeun Min** Abstract: The purpose of this study is to investigate the lives of early adult children of divorce who experienced parental divorce during childhood and adolescence, and to understand the meaning of parental divorce. This study was conducted through Narrative Inquiry. Participants experienced parental divorce during childhood and adolescence over a decade ago and now are in the early adult children developmental stage. The data were collected from Nov. 1, 2017 to Jan. 6, 2018, and interviews were held for 120 minutes at a time to three or four sessions. The data for the analysis were the transcript data recording interviews with the participants and the research journal. The subjects in this study that can represent the lives of the participants are ‘The complicated heart that the divorce has driven’, ‘The energy to survive with’, and ‘The meaning of parental divorce’, and it was understood how the experiences related to each subject were related to the whole story. The meanings of parental divorce as a child discovered by the researcher are as follows: <My own stone lying ever in my mind>, <Holding the family members of the broken family>, and <Marriage rolled up only with a sense of responsibility>. Based on these results, the study was discussed in the context of personal justification, practical justification, and social justification, and suggestions for follow-up research were made.
