쿤닝궁(坤寧宮)과 양심전(養心殿)의 도상학 비교 연구

This study compares and analyzes the decorative systems of the empress's space and the emperor's space in the palace architectural system of the Qing Dynasty, based on iconology as a theoretical basis. A three-stage iconographic analysis (iconography, iconography, and iconographic interpretation) of structure, pattern, and color was performed focusing on the eastern pavilion of Kunning Palace and Yangsheng Hall. As a result of the analysis, the decoration system of Yangshengjeon symbolizes political reason and imperial order centered on the Dragon Gate, Sangyunmun Gate, gold color, and symmetrical composition, while Kuning Palace's centerpiece is the Feng Gate, Twin Xi Gate, Vine Lotus Gate, and White Porcelain Painting, revealing the cultural meaning of motherhood, marriage, and continuation of life. This difference in space not only reflects the gender division of the Qing Dynasty court example, but also shows the dual cultural structure of ‘outside and inside’ and ‘order and life’. In particular, the pattern system of Kuning Palace is the only independent visual system formed around women in the Qing Dynasty court, and represents the cultural authority and spiritual symbolism of the empress' space. This study identified the independent cultural status of the Qing Dynasty empress's space through an iconographic approach, and provides a theoretical basis for future ‘symbolic system of women's space’ and ‘research on the modern transition of traditional patterns’.
