현대 디자인에 활용된 몬드리안 미학의 레거시 -디자인 영역 사례 연구를 중심으로-

현대 미술에서 디자인 영역에 직⋅간접적으로 영향을 끼친 대표적 그림은 피에트 몬드리안의 기하학적추상인 <구성> 회화 유형이다. 그의 <구성>은 3원색과 무채색, 비대칭적 구도의 기하학적 추상회화로 오늘날까지 패션디자인뿐만 아니라 건축⋅제품⋅시각⋅ 디지털 디자인 등에 많은 영향을 끼치고 있다. 특히몬드리안에게 경의를 표하기 위해 입 생 로랑이 디자인한 <몬드리안 드레스>는 패션디자이너뿐만 아니라다양한 영역의 디자이너에게 몬드리안 스타일에 바탕을 둔 디자인 발상의 대표적 사례이다. 본 연구는 몬드리안 스타일에 기반한 몬드리안 미학이 오늘날까지 다양한 디자인 영역에 영향을 미치는요인을 건축⋅제품⋅패션⋅시각 디자인 등의 사례를중심으로 연구⋅분석하였다. 세부적으로 <몬드리안 드레스>, <헤이그 시청 건물 외벽 디자인>, <삼성 평택캠퍼스 외벽디자인>, 스와치 아트 저니의 <몬드리안시계> 등을 중심으로 몬드리안 스타일 활용의 유형을연구⋅분석하였다. 이러한 연구를 바탕으로 디지털 시대의 디자인 영역에서 몬드리안 스타일의 다양한 표현가능성과 근거를 연구⋅분석하였다. 사례 연구를 바탕으로 오늘날까지 몬드리안 스타일이 디자인 영역에 활발하게 활용⋅차용되는 근거를 연구⋅분석하였다. 몬드리안 <구성> 회화 유형이 현대와 동시대 디자인에 활용되고 있는 것은 기하학적 형태와 색채의 균형감과 안정감, 다양한 분야에 적용 가능한 확장성, 시대를 초월한 미적 가치 등에 있다고 추정할 수 있다. 몬드리안 미학의 레거시는 현재 진행형이다. 현대 예술과 디자인의 학제 간 연구에 기반하여 몬드리안의<구성> 회화 유형이 다양한 디자인 영역에 차용, 활용된 사례 연구는 21세기의 예술가, 디자이너의 창의적 발상과 표현에 중요한 역할을 담당할 것으로 기대한다.
Abstract
A representative painting in modern art that has directly and indirectly influenced the field of design is Piet Mondrian’s Composition series. His Composition is a geometric abstract painting using three primary colors, achromatic colors, and an asymmetrical composition, and has had a great influence on fashion design as well as architecture, product design, visual design, and digital design to this day. In particular, the Mondrian Dress designed by Yves Saint Laurent to pay homage to Mondrian is a representative example of design ideas based on the Mondrian style not only for fashion designers but also for designers in various fields. This study investigated and analyzed the factors that have influenced various design fields to this day, based on Mondrian aesthetics based on Mondrian style, focusing on cases such as architecture, product, fashion, and visual design. In detail, the types of Mondrian style utilization were studied and analyzed, focusing on <Mondrian Dress>, <The Hague City Hall Exterior Design>, <Samsung Pyeongtaek Campus Exterior Design>, and <Mondrian Clock> from Swatch Art Journey. Based on this research, we explored and analyzed the diverse expressive possibilities and grounds for Mondrian’s style in the digital age of design. Based on case studies, we explored and analyzed the basis for Mondrian’s continued use and adoption in design to this day. The reason Mondrian’s Composition style is being utilized in modern and contemporary design can be attributed to its balance and stability of geometric shapes and colors, its expandability in various fields, and its timeless aesthetic value. Based on this research, we explored and analyzed the diverse expressive possibilities and grounds for Mondrian’s style in the digital age of design. Based on case studies, we explored and analyzed the basis for Mondrian’s continued application and adoption in design to nowadays. The continued application of Mondrian’s Composition style in modern and contemporary design can be attributed to its timeless aesthetic value, its scalability for diverse fields, and its sense of balance and stability. The legacy of Mondrian’s aesthetics continues to this day. Based on interdisciplinary research in contemporary art and design, this case study of Mondrian’s Composition being adopted and utilized in various design fields is expected to play a significant role in the creative thinking and expression of 21st-century artists and designers.
