현대 패션 디자인에 적용된 그러데이션의 미적 특성

This study aims to analyze the aesthetic characteristics and expressive methods of fashion design incorporating gradation. The research began with a theoretical review of news articles, design websites, and previous studies retrieved using keywords such as gradation, gradient, color transition, and color blending. Following this, a total of 872 fashion works featuring gradation were collected from collections presented between the 2015 S/S and 2025 F/W seasons, and a case analysis was conducted. The results are as follows: First, non-boundary was demonstrated through color gradation applied to soft materials and the natural integration of heterogeneous fabrics and decorations, thereby blurring the boundary between body and clothing. Second, fantasy was expressed through three-dimensional pattern gradations that created virtual images or through two-dimensional pixel gradations that emphasized flatness. Moreover, gradation applied to unconventional garment structures evoked cartoon-like imagination and playfulness. Third, temporality was represented through blurring, pointillism, layering, and pattern gradation, forming narratives related to the flow of nature and the birth and growth of life. Fourth, illusion was achieved through strong color contrasts and geometric pattern gradations that emphasized dramatic transformations of body shape or produced moiré effects. Fifth, futurism was conveyed through vivid colors, geometric patterns, and glossy materials such as PVC, silver, neon, and sequins, expressing images of cyber warriors or functional technical wear infused with cosmic and digital sensibilities. This study is meaningful in that it introduces gradient techniques into fashion design cases for the first time and examines their implications.
