성인 자녀의 이혼이 노년기 부모의 우울 증상에 미치는 영향: 성별 및 자녀 관계 만족도의 조절효과

본 연구는 생애과정 관점의 ‘연결된 삶’의 개념을 적용하여 성인 자녀의 이혼과 노년기 부모의 우울 증상 간 관계를 살펴보고, 이 관계에서부모의 성별에 따른 조절효과를 확인하였다. 또한 성인 자녀의 이혼과 노년기 부모의 우울 증상 간 관계에 대한 자녀 관계 만족도의 조절효과가부모의 성별에 따라 차이가 있는지 검토하였다. 이를 위해 고령화연구패널조사(KLoSA)의 1차년도 참여자 중 성인 자녀 1명 이상이 혼인 상태에있다고 보고한 65세 이상 노인 1,250명의 자료를 활용하였다. 자료 분석을 위해 기술통계분석, 시차효과모델에 기초한 중다회귀분석을 실시하였다. 본 연구의 주요 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 자녀의 이혼을 경험한 부모는 자녀의 이혼을 미경험한 부모보다 더 높은 우울 증상을 보고하였다. 둘째, 자녀의 이혼을 경험한 어머니는 자녀의 이혼을 미경험한 어머니보다 더 높은 우울 증상을 경험하였다. 셋째, 자녀 관계 만족도가 평균이상인 경우 자녀의 이혼을 경험한 아버지는 자녀의 이혼을 미경험한 아버지보다 더 높은 우울 증상을 보고하였다. 본 연구는 자녀의 이혼이부모의 우울 증상에 미치는 단기적 영향을 확인하고, 자녀 관계 만족도가 자녀의 이혼과 부와 모의 우울 증상 간의 관계에 각기 다른 영향을미칠 수 있음을 확인하여 이에 따른 개입 방안을 모색하는 기초자료를 제시하였다.
Abstract
This study examines the association between adult children’s divorce and older parents’ depressive symptoms, as well as the moderating roles of parents’ gender and parent–child relationship satisfaction. Using data from the 2006, 2008, and 2010 waves of the Korean Longitudinal Study of Aging (KLoSA), we conducted descriptive analyses and a series of multiple regression models. The findings are as follows. First, adult children’s divorce was significantly associated with higher levels of depressive symptoms among older parents. Second, older mothers with divorced children reported higher depressive symptoms than those with non-divorced children. Third, among older fathers, those with divorced children also exhibited higher depressive symptoms than fathers with non-divorced children; however, this difference emerged only when their parent–child relationship satisfaction was above average. These results underscore the need to expand support services for families experiencing divorce and to develop gender-responsive interventions that address the mental health challenges faced by parents coping with their children’s marital dissolution.
