의료기관 종사자의 환경인식이 참여의도, 개선활동, 지속가능한 의료폐기물 관리에 미치는 영향: 국내 보훈병원을 중심으로
The Impact of Environmental Perception on Participation Intention, Improvement Activities, and Sustainable Medical Waste Management among Healthcare Staff: Focusing on Veterans Hospitals

본 연구는 공공기관 의료종사자를 대상으로 환경관심, 환경지식, 환경규범이 의료폐기물 분리배출 참여의도와 개선활동에 미치는 영향을 분석하여 지속가능한 의료폐기물 관리 행동의 선행요인을 규명하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 전국 6개 보훈병원에서 근무하는 의료종사자(의사, 간호사, 간호조무사, 병동이송 지원직, 임상병리사 등)를 대상으로 2024년 9월 25일부터 10월 11일까지 자기기입식 설문조사를 실시하였으며, 총 293부를 최종 분석에 활용하였다. 자료 분석에는 SPSS 25.0과 AMOS 25.0을 사용하여 가설을 검증하였다. 분석 결과, 종사자의 환경관심은 의료폐기물 분리배출 참여의도(가설 1)와 개선활동(가설 4)에, 환경규범은 참여의도(가설 2)와 개선활동(가설 5)에 각각 유의한 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타나 가설이 채택되었다. 또한, 참여의도와 개선활동(가설 7), 참여의도와 지속가능한 의료폐기물 관리(가설 8), 개선활동과 지속가능한 의료폐기물 관리(가설 9) 간의 관계도 모두 유의하게 나타나 가설은 채택되었다. 그러나, 환경규범이 참여의도(가설 3)와 개선활동(가설 6)에 미치는 영향은 유의하지 않게 나타나 가설 3과 가설 6은 기각되었다. 이러한 결과는 첫째, 지속가능성 이론을 의료폐기물 관리에 적용할 수 있는 학문적 근거를 제시하였으며, 둘째, 환경규범과 실제 행동 간 간극에 대한 후속 연구의 필요성을 제기하였다. 셋째, 환경관심과 환경지식이 지속가능한 의료폐기물 관리 행동을 촉진하는 핵심 요인임을 실증적으로 확인하였다. 실무적으로는 의료기관 내 정기적 교육과 인식 개선 프로그램 마련, 조직 차원의 환경조성과 정책 지원, 장기적 관리 목표와 실행 계획 수립의 필요성을 시사한다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to identify the factors that influence sustainable medical waste management behaviors. This study examines how environmental concern, knowledge, and norms affect the intention of healthcare workers in public institutions to participate in and improve medical waste separation. From September 25 to October 11, 2024, a self-administered survey was given to healthcare workers (including physicians, nurses, nursing assistants, ward transport staff, and clinical laboratory technologists) at six veterans hospitals nationwide. A total of 293 valid responses were collected for the final analysis. SPSS 25.0 and AMOS 25.0 were used to test the research model and hypotheses. The results showed that environmental concern significantly and positively influenced the intention to participate in medical waste separation (H 1) and improvement activities (H 4). Environmental norms significantly influenced the participation intention (H 2) and to engage in improvement activities (H 5). In addition, significant positive relationships were found between participation intention and improvement activities (H 7), participation intention and sustainable medical waste management (H 8), and improvement activities and sustainable medical waste management (H 9). However, the effects of environmental norms on participation intention (H 3) and improvement activities (H 6) were not statistically significant. The study empirically supports implementing sustainability theory in medical waste management. It highlights the differences between environmental norms and actual behavior, identifying environmental concern and knowledge as key drivers of sustainable practices. In practice, the results of this study suggest that healthcare organizations need to promote sustainable medical waste management through regular education, supportive policies, and long-term strategic planning.
