초록
전통적인 제조·유통·물류 산업이 주축이던 시대를 지나, 최근에는 ICT, 우주, 바이오 등 신기술을 보유한 창업기업이 산업의 새로운 패러다임을 주도하고 있다. 이러한 변화의 중심에는 기술창업이라는 테마가 자리 잡고 있으며, 기술창업기업이 초기 단계를 넘어 성공적으로 안착하기 위해서는 막연한 직관이 아닌 데이터에 기반한 의사결정이 요구된다. 이에 본 연구는 기술창업기업의 데이터 기반 리스크 테이킹이 경영성과에 미치는 영향을 규명하고, 나아가 기업의 도전적 성장지향성이 이 관계에서 발휘하는 조절효과를 실증적으로 검증하고자 한다. 본 연구의 방법은 설문조사에 기반한 실증연구를 채택하였으며, 서울 및 경기 권역의 제조 기반의 기술창업기업 대표자와 임원진을 대상으로 설문을 실시하였다. 설문조사는 총 2,500여 부의 설문을 배포하여 회수된 220부 중, 응답이 누락되었거나 불성실한 10부를 제외하고 최종 210부의 유효 표본을 확보하였으며, 통계 처리를 위해 IBM SPSS 28.0과 Smart PLS 4.1을 활용하였다. 분석 기법으로는 측정모델의 타당성과 신뢰성을 검토한 후, 경로 분석에 최적화된 부분최소제곱 구조방정식 모델링(PLS-SEM)을 통해 가설을 검정하였다. 실증분석 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 데이터 기반 리스크 테이킹은 재무적 성과와 비재무적 성과 모두에 유의미한 정(+)의 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 이는 데이터 분석을 통해 위험을 정량화하고 자원을 배분하는 기업가적 지향성이 창업기업의 실질적 성장을 견인함을 의미한다. 둘째, 도전적 성장지향성은 데이터 기반 리스크 테이킹과 경영성과의 관계에서 유의미한 부(-)의 조절효과를 보였다. 이는 과도한 도전적 추진력이 데이터가 제시하는 합리적 경고 신호를 상쇄하거나 자원의 비효율적 배분을 초래할 수 있음을 시사한다. 결론적으로 본 연구는 기술창업기업이 지속 가능한 성과를 창출하기 위해서는 데이터 기반의 이성적 통제와 창업가의 전략적 추진력 간의 전략적 균형이 필요함을 제시하였다.
Abstract
In recent years, the industrial landscape has shifted from one dominated by traditional manufacturing, distribution, and logistics industries to one increasingly led by startups equipped with advanced technologies such as ICT, space, and biotechnology. At the center of this transformation lies technology entrepreneurship, and for technology startups to move beyond the early stage and achieve sustainable success, decision-making based on data rather than intuition has become essential. Accordingly, this study aims to examine the impact of data-driven risk-taking on firm performance in technology startups and to empirically test the moderating effect of firms’ challenging growth orientation on this relationship. This study adopts an empirical research design based on a survey methodology. Data were collected from CEOs and executives of technology startups located in the Seoul metropolitan and Gyeonggi regions. A total of approximately 2,500 questionnaires were distributed, and 220 responses were returned. After excluding 10 incomplete or insincere responses, 210 valid samples were retained for analysis. IBM SPSS 28.0 and SmartPLS 4.1 were used for statistical analysis. After assessing the reliability and validity of the measurement model, hypotheses were tested using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM), which is suitable for path analysis. The empirical results are as follows. First, data-driven risk-taking was found to have a significant positive (+) effect on both financial and non-financial performance. This implies that the capability to quantify risks and allocate resources through data analysis drives the firm's tangible growth. Second, challenging growth orientation exhibited a significant negative (-) moderating effect on the relationship between data-driven risk-taking and business performance. This suggests that excessive aggressive drive may offset the rational warning signals provided by data or lead to inefficient resource allocation. In conclusion, this study establishes that a ‘Strategic Balance’ between data-based rational control and the entrepreneur's strategic drive is essential for technology startups to generate sustainable performance.
