플랫폼 가사노동자의 사회적 유대 형성과 집단적 이해대변으로의 잠재성: 비공식 공동체를 중심으로

This study examines informal communities of platform domestic workers, focusing on how social bonds are formed and on the constraints and potentials that shape pathways toward collective interest representation. Based on in-depth interviews with platform domestic workers, the study finds that while these workers form social bonds and acquire various resources within informal communities, structural and cultural constraints prevent them from advancing toward collective interest representation. Unlike structural constraints that apply across platform labor, cultural constraints are specific to platform domestic workers, as negative social perceptions of domestic workers become internalized, leading to the deliberate concealment of occupational identity and ultimately obstructing collective interest representation. At the same time, interactions within informal communities and workers’ expressed desire to build relationships with fellow workers prior to formal organizing form a potential foundation for future organizing. The analysis suggests that addressing cultural constraints is a critical task for advancing collective interest representation among platform domestic workers.
