청소년의 우울, 자아존중감, 성격강점이 자살생각에 미치는 영향

청소년 자살은 심각한 사회 문제로 대두되고 있으며, 자살생각에 영향을 미치는 요인을 규명하는 것은 자살 예방을 위해 매우 중요하다. 본 연구는 청소년의 자살생각에 우울, 자아존중감, 성격강점이 미치는 영향을 파악하기 위해 수행된 서술적 조사연구이다. 자료수집은 2021년 9월부터 10월까지 B광역시에 소재한 일개 인문계 고등학교에 재학 중인 청소년 107명을 대상으로 실시하였다. 수집된 자료는 SPSS 24.0 프로그램을 이용하여 분석하였으며, 청소년의 우울, 자아존중감, 성격강점, 자살생각의 정도를 파악하기 위해 평균과 표준편차를 산출하였다. 변수 간의 관계를 알아보기 위해 Pearson 상관계수를 이용하였고, 자살생각에 미치는 영향요인을 규명하기 위해 다중회귀분석을 실시하였다. 연구결과, 자아존중감과 자살생각 간에는 통계적으로 유의한 음의 상관관계(r=- .24, p< .05)를 보였고, 우울과 자살생각 간에는 통계적으로 유의한 양의 상관관계(r= .36, p< .01)를 나타냈다. 청소년의 자살생각에 미치는 영향요인을 분석한 결과, 우울(β= .36, p< .01)이 유의한 예측변수였으며, 모형의 설명력은 12%(F=15.52, p< .01)로 나타났다. 본 연구는 청소년 자살예방에서 우울 관리의 핵심적 역할을 재확인하였으며, 성격강점과 자아존중감이 우울을 매개로 하는 보호요인임을 시사한다. 따라서 학교 현장에서는 우울의 조기 스크리닝과 자아존중감·성격강점 증진을 통합한 포괄적 정신건강 증진 프로그램을 개발·적용할 필요가 있다.
Abstract
Adolescent suicide is a serious social problem, and identifying factors affecting suicidal ideation is essential for suicide prevention. This descriptive survey study examined the effects of depression, self-esteem, and character strengths on suicidal ideation in adolescents. Data were collected from September to October 2021 from 107 adolescents attending a general high school located in B Metropolitan City. Data were analyzed using SPSS 24.0 program. Mean and standard deviation were calculated to identify the levels of depression, self-esteem, character strengths, and suicidal ideation. Pearson correlation coefficient was used to examine relationships between variables, and multiple regression analysis was performed to identify factors affecting suicidal ideation. The results showed a significant negative correlation between self-esteem and suicidal ideation (r=- .24, p< .05), and a significant positive correlation between depression and suicidal ideation (r= .36, p< .01). Multiple regression analysis revealed that depression (β= .36, p< .01) was a significant predictor of suicidal ideation, explaining 12% of the variance (F=15.52, p< .01). This study reconfirmed the critical role of depression management in adolescent suicide prevention and suggested that character strengths and self-esteem serve as protective factors mediated by depression. Therefore, schools should develop and implement comprehensive mental health promotion programs that integrate early screening for depression with interventions to enhance self-esteem and character strengths.
