바이오필릭 디자인 요소를 적용한 네일아트 디자인 연구

본 연구는 지속 가능성과 자연 친화적 가치가 강조되는 현대 사회의 흐름 속에서, 바이오필릭 디자인의 이론적 특성을 조형 매체인 네일아트에 적용하고 이를 체계적으로 유형화하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 기존의 바이오필릭 디자인 연구는 주로 건축, 실내, 공간 및 환경 디자인 분야를 중심으로 전개되어 왔으며 뷰티디자인 영역, 특히 네일아트 분야에서는 자연 모티프를 활용한 표현 연구는 존재하나 바이오필릭 디자인의 이론적 틀을 적용하여 조형적으로 재정립한 연구는 매우 제한적이다. 본 연구는 선행연구 고찰을 통해 바이오필릭 디자인의 기존 분류 체계를 비교·분석하고 거시적 자연 환경의 특성을 신체 말단의 소규모 조형 스케일로 전이시키는 ‘매체 전환’ 전략을 적용하여 네일아트에 적합한 새로운 바이오필릭 디자인 특성 분류를 제안하였다. 바이오필릭 디자인의 핵심 특성을 ‘자연의 직접 경험’, ‘자연의 간접 경험’, ‘자연의 형태와 상징’, ‘공간과 장소의 경험’, ‘재료와의 연결’이라는 다섯 가지 상위 특성으로 재정립하고 이를 네일아트의 조형 언어로 전환하였다. 연구 방법은 다양한 분야의 바이오필릭 디자인 선행연구에 대한 문헌 분석을 바탕으로 분류 체계를 도출한 후 이를 기준으로 총 5점의 네일아트 작품을 제작하고 각 작품에 구현된 조형적 특징과 감각적 효과를 분석하는 방식으로 구성되었다. 연구 결과, 바이오필릭 디자인 특성은 네일아트에서 단순한 자연 이미지의 재현을 넘어 빛의 유동성, 촉각적 질감, 유기적 형태, 공간적 심도, 재료의 물성을 포함하는 ‘미시적 조형 오브제’로 구현될 수 있음을 확인하였다. 이는 네일아트가 장식적 기능을 넘어 자연을 신체에 직접 착용하는 ‘웨어러블 네이처(Wearable Nature)’로 확장될 수 있는 가능성을 시사하며 바이오필릭 디자인이 지향하는 회복성과 웰빙 중심의 미학적 가치를 뷰티디자인 영역으로 확장한다는 점에서 의의를 지닌다. 본 연구는 바이오필릭 디자인 개념을 네일아트에 체계적으로 적용한 초기 연구로서, 향후 지속 가능한 뷰티 콘텐츠 개발 및 뷰티디자인 교육 연구를 위한 기초 자료로 활용될 수 있을 것이다.
Abstract
Amid contemporary trends emphasizing sustainability and nature-friendly values, this study aims to apply the theoretical characteristics of Biophilic Design to nail art as a micro-scale formative medium and to systematically reclassify them. Previous studies on Biophilic Design have primarily focused on architecture, interior, and environmental design, while research that applies its theoretical framework to nail art remains limited. To address this gap, this study reviews existing classification systems of Biophilic Design and proposes a new framework suitable for nail art through a “Media Conversion” strategy, which translates macro-scale natural characteristics into the micro-scale of the body’s extremities. The core characteristics of Biophilic Design were re-established into five overarching categories: Direct Experience of Nature, Indirect Experience of Nature, Natural Forms and Symbols, Experience of Space and Place, and Connection with Materials, which were then translated into the formative language of nail art. Based on this framework, five nail art works were produced and analyzed in terms of their formative characteristics and sensory effects. The results indicate that Biophilic Design characteristics can be realized in nail art not merely as visual representations of nature, but as micro-sculptural objects embodying the fluidity of light, tactile textures, organic forms, spatial depth, and material properties. This suggests that nail art can extend beyond decorative functions to become a form of “Wearable Nature”. As an exploratory study, this research expands the application of Biophilic Design into the field of beauty design and provides foundational data for sustainable beauty content development and future beauty design education research.
