Evolving Crisis Architecture across Growth Stages: A Case Study of the Technology-Based Venture Park Systems

본 연구는 기술벤처기업의 성장 과정에서 반복적으로 발생하는 위기를 단일 사건 대응 차원을 넘어 구조적 관점에서 분석하였다. 이를 위해 산업용 원자현미경(Atomic Force Microscopy, AFM) 분야에서 글로벌 선도 지위를 확보한 파크시스템스를 단일 사례로 선정하여, 성장 과정을 네 개의 세대로 구분하고 각 단계에서 나타난 위기 유형과 대응 전략을 질적 사례연구 방법으로 고찰하였다. 본 연구에서 제시하는 ‘Crisis Architecture’는 기업 성장 과정에서 반복적으로 경험한 위기와 대응, 학습이 축적·내재화되며 형성되는 조직 고유의 위기관리 구조를 의미한다. 분석 결과, 네 개 세대는 크게 제품 개발 단계와 시장 확장 단계라는 두 성장 국면으로 수렴되었으며, 각 국면에서는 기술적 위기와 관리적 위기가 교차적으로 주도하였다. 위기–대응–학습의 반복적 메커니즘은 조직의 회복탄력성을 강화하고, 축적된 대응 역량은 점차 구조화된 위기관리 체계로 발전하였다. 본 연구는 기존 위기관리 연구가 개별 사건 중심 분석에 머물렀던 한계를 보완하여, 기술 기반 벤처기업의 성장 단계와 위기관리 구조의 진화 과정을 통합적으로 설명하는 분석 틀을 제시한다는 점에서 이론적 의의를 갖는다. 또한 사례 분석을 통해 성장 단계별 위기 구조와 조직적 대응 조정 메커니즘을 구체화함으로써, 벤처기업의 위기관리 체계 설계와 정책적 지원 방향에 대한 실무적 시사점을 제공한다.
Abstract
This study examines recurring and structural crises in technology ventures through a structural framework termed “Crisis Architecture,” moving beyond single-event response analysis. Park Systems, a global leader in industrial Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM), is analyzed as a single case, and its growth process is divided into four generational stages to identify the crises and response strategies observed in each phase. The analysis shows that the firm’s growth converges into two main phases—product development and market expansion—during which technological and managerial crises intersect and shape organizational dynamics. Through an iterative crisis–response–learning mechanism, the organization progressively strengthened its resilience, and experiences of overcoming crises become turning points that triggered simultaneous technological and managerial innovations. These findings address limitations of event-centered crisis management research and empirically demonstrate the importance of a virtuous cycle of crisis–response–learning–resilience in technology venture growth. The study also extends understanding of growth mechanisms in technology-innovation firms and offers practical implications for designing crisis management systems and policy support for venture companies.
