빅데이터 트렌드 분석을 통한 항만 ESG 거버넌스 구축 방안

연구 목적 - 본 연구는 항만 ESG 평가지표 도출을 위하여 환경(중분류 6개, 세부지표 13개), 사회(중분류 14개, 세부지표 19개), 지배구조(중분류 9개, 세부지표 24개)를 기반으로 총 56개 세부 평가 항목을 기반으로 인간 중심의 사회(S)' 영역과 '안전'이 가장 핵심적인 지표로 도출되었다. 이를 통해 항만 특성에 부합하는 새로운 ESG 평가분석 프레임워크를 제공하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 방법론 - 본 연구는 항만 ESG 평가모델 개발과 객관적 가중치 도출을 위해 대중의 관심도와 전문가 판단을 결합한 이중 가중치 시스템을 적용하였다. 구글 검색량 지수(GSVI)를 활용해 312개 핵심 키워드에 대한 빅데이터 트렌드를 분석하였다. 또한 문헌조사를 통해 평가항목을 분류하고 3단계 구조 모델을 구축하여 각 지표별 상대적 중요도를 산출 및 검증하였다. 연구 결과 - 분석 결과, 환경(E) 13개, 사회(S) 19개, 지배구조(G) 24개 등 총 56개의 세부 평가 항목을 도출하였다. 특히 대중 관심도(GSVI) 분석에서 사회(S) 부문이 67.1%로 압도적인 비중을 차지했으며, 최종 통합 가중치 역시 사회(0.49), 환경(0.36), 지배구조(0.15) 순으로 나타났다. 세부 지표 중요도 상위 3개 항목이 근무환경(27.1%), 사회공헌(17.6%), 보건·안전(13.3%)으로 도출되어 항만 근로자의 인권과 안전 등 인간 중심의 S 영역이 항만 ESG 평가의 핵심 변수임이 실증되었다. 시사점 - 항만의 지속가능성은 단순한 환경 규제 준수나 효율성 중심에서 벗어나 인간 중심의 사회적(S) 책임에서 출발해야 함을 시사한다. 이를 바탕으로 항만 ESG 거버넌스는 분절적 관리가 아닌 '도입-확산-선도'의 3단계 성숙도 모델을 통해 유기적으로 고도화되어야 한다. 항만은 리스크 예측을 위한 회복탄력적 거버넌스를 구축하고 ESG 등급 공시제 도입, 안전·환경 데이터 실시간 보고 의무화 등 정책적 지원을 통해 지속가능한 가치 허브로 전환되어야 한다.
Abstract
Purpose - The primary objective of this research is to establish a comprehensive ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) framework tailored for the port industry. To overcome the current shortage of quantitative assessment tools in this sector, we built a multi-layered evaluation structure based on prior literature. This structure encompasses three core ESG dimensions, which are further broken down into 14 themes and 56 specific indicators. Design/Methodology/Approach - Methodologically, this paper integrates hierarchical modeling with big data analytics. To gauge societal interest, we extracted Google Search Volume Index (GSVI) records from January 2020 to May 2025, tracking 312 distinct ESG keywords. Subsequently, these macro-level data trends were merged with pairwise comparison assessments conducted by industry experts, allowing us to objectively calculate the relative weight of each ESG element. Findings - Our analytical results reveal that the Social (S) pillar captured the vast majority of public focus at 67.1%, significantly outpacing the Environmental (E) and Governance (G) pillars, which recorded 26.9% and 5.9% respectively. Moreover, the final integrated weights pinpoint specific social elements—namely, labor conditions, community engagement, and occupational safety—as the most decisive factors for assessing port ESG performance. Research Implications - Ultimately, these outcomes underscore that sustainable port operations must be rooted in human-centric management. Drawing on these insights, we propose a formalized governance model alongside practical policy measures. These recommendations are intended to foster sustainable practices, encourage responsible financial investments, and lay the groundwork for a universally accepted port ESG standardization system.velopment of standardized port ESG evaluation systems.
